Little Known Ways To Reduce Your Credit Card Debt

By: jill reese

So, you have read all the information about how to reduce your credit card debt and have taken all the advice, and still are in debt. Now is the time to get creative! Here are some new ideas for finding money and escaping credit card debt.

Make gifts. Instead of spending a fortune on Christmas gifts, which would only end up on your credit cards, make gifts. Bake cookies or cakes, make scarves and mittens, find your inner home-economics diva! If you do not know how to make anything, then do a little research at the library or online. Home-made goods are not very hard, but they are rare now, so all your friends and family will be impressed!

Become your own barista. Leave the credit cards at home and take your own coffee instead. The $3.50 a day that you will save by not buying coffee on the way to work will equal $910 at the end of the year. That is a huge credit card payment! By the way, espresso and regular coffee come from the same beans!

Lose the gym membership. Think back to elementary school. You had endless energy. You felt great. You never attended a spinning class. Simple aerobic exercises kept you in shape. Jumping jacks have not changed since you were a kid, and walking around the block is still free. Most fitness clubs charge around $40 a month for membership. That is a $480 credit card payment every year!

Turn off the TV. Most networks post episodes of their popular shows online the day after the episode airs. If you have both Internet and cable or satellite, cancel your cable/satellite and watch on the computer. That will free up around $600 dollars a year for your credit cards.

These are just a few ideas of how to find money to pay off your credit cards and reduce your debt. Pull your bank and credit card statements for at least 3 months. Certain charges will pop out at you with alarming frequency. If the purchases are not necessary, change the habit and put that money toward reducing your credit card debt. Soon, you will be debt free and you will not even notice what you gave up!
